Clubs

Last week we started clubs. Every Friday afternoon we go to the club that we chose to participate, I chose Coding and Robotics.
Last Friday it was our first session. We got in groups. I went with Noah, Emma, Harry and Guy.
I decided to go to Coding because I can already do some HTML and Java script. Emma and I are going to the only girls.

I expected that we would do some scratch and guess what.... We did! I did the proper scratch and everyone else is doing scratch junior.
I am creating a shooting game, were you hover your mouse over the screen and when you press the space the machine gun fires. The point of the game is to shoot down as many balloons as you can. I am going to try get a scoring method to come on the screen.

I am going to keep updating this as I progress.

School: Cross country

Bang!
Sprinting off, my heart was leaping out of my chest. Would I beat Piper or not? The question was racing round head. I was quite surprised as I was running beside Holly, suddenly Holly sped up. Falling a little behind her.  After completing the first lap I was well ahead of everyone except Holly. As the hill came nearer and nearer I started to wish that I hard practised more. Taking short, sharp strides, I power up the rise. With every step I am closer to the finish. As I reach the top of the hill all I  can see is a big paddock. I run down the first straight. Round the far corner. Round the next. Suddenly I am aproching the hill, this I get to run down down it! As I fly down the hill, picking up momentum, I trip, catching myself before I would eventually tumble to the bottom of the hill. When I start the long, sheltered forest. This is my favourite part of the run! Running out of the forest, round the next lap. The finish line is in sight. I sprint. My legs are going on fast forward. There's no stopping. Done! I had finished in 2nd place!

Anzac Presentation

For four weeks we have been researching about our topic that we chose. Annabelle and I decided to look at the food aspect. We researched about what food they ate and their cooking facilities. Once we had done that we started to create a tin cooker, sometimes called a hobo stove. Go to the link below to watch our final product!

PAL's

Last term 10 students got selected to become PALs, PALs stands for Physical Activity leaders. We went to Ashley school to participate in a PAL's leaders day. We played lots of leadership games, such as this soccer one where we played 6 v 6. There were always 2 of us referring each match. Then he stopped us and we had to come up with some new rules to improve the game, we came up with having it just 4 v 4, so the filed wasn't so crowded, another one was that we couldn't have goalies, this was because the fields were quite small and the goal boxes were only about a meter wide. After having gone to the leaders day I think we could all now take a group of little kids and be able to play controlled games.

Now we have established the PAL's program you might have seem that on every Tuesday and Wednesday 2 PAL’s have been out on the back field organizing and playing games.
If you want to come and play the games we have organised, feel free to join in.
Some of the games we have run so far are: Killer ball, Rob the nest and using the parachute.

Last week Annabelle and I did our 3rd session of PAL's with the juniors. We played lots of different games like Cat and Mouse, Cops and Robbers, Duck Duck Goose. I am really enjoying being a PAL and I am looking forward to playing more games with the seniors and juniors next time and the times afterwards.

I strongly recommend that if your school isn't already doing the PAL's program that you should encourage them to give it a go. It give students that might not have very many friends or like t be alone to do at morning tea and lunch time, they can interact with others in there class and school.

Book review, Tangi

Tangi is the first novel of Witi Ihimaera's that I've read and I found it extremely hard to read, while at the same time, I enjoyed every minute of it.  It's not a difficult read, and actually is repetitive throughout. But it has an almost hypnotic quality.  The book itself weaves two strands: the return of Tama to his home after his father's death, and Tama dealing with his father's death after it has happened.  Maybe there are even more strands in there.  I think it's this quality that makes the repetition interesting, rather than boring. It's a hugely emotional book, and made me pretty sad at times.  Not many books cause me to express such emotions.  It took me about 1 day to read, but it was worth every page.

There were quite a lot of kids from Loburn School competing. In my age group, 11yr olds, there was Annabelle, Zoe, Kate and I.

We got in the car that we were going and took off for Dudley Pool. I was in Kate's car with Kate, Annabelle and Zoe. We talked a lot about previous swimming sports. Finally we arrived. We jumped out and headed off to the foyer. We went and got changed and sat in our year groups area.
With even more people sitting on the benches we were more than squished! The 12 year olds went first and then the 11 year olds and so on. BANG! the 12 year olds were off!
