School: Cross country

Bang!
Sprinting off, my heart was leaping out of my chest. Would I beat Piper or not? The question was racing round head. I was quite surprised as I was running beside Holly, suddenly Holly sped up. Falling a little behind her.  After completing the first lap I was well ahead of everyone except Holly. As the hill came nearer and nearer I started to wish that I hard practised more. Taking short, sharp strides, I power up the rise. With every step I am closer to the finish. As I reach the top of the hill all I  can see is a big paddock. I run down the first straight. Round the far corner. Round the next. Suddenly I am aproching the hill, this I get to run down down it! As I fly down the hill, picking up momentum, I trip, catching myself before I would eventually tumble to the bottom of the hill. When I start the long, sheltered forest. This is my favourite part of the run! Running out of the forest, round the next lap. The finish line is in sight. I sprint. My legs are going on fast forward. There's no stopping. Done! I had finished in 2nd place!

Anzac Presentation

For four weeks we have been researching about our topic that we chose. Annabelle and I decided to look at the food aspect. We researched about what food they ate and their cooking facilities. Once we had done that we started to create a tin cooker, sometimes called a hobo stove. Go to the link below to watch our final product!

Mt. Richardson

On Friday the 13th of May we started the treacherous climb to the summit of Mt. Richardson.

Walking through the gates. Swinging them open, I take my first step onto the hard grey concrete. Walking slowly towards a big rectangular building. "Holly!". Jess comes running up. Now snapped out of my day dream I walk into the Mt. Thomas room.

Swinging my bag onto my back, we start to walk. Me, Emma and Annabelle were walking together. Up and Up we climbed. Round every corner up every hill.
Josh Dando was coming with us, he used to be in my sisters class and Loburn. He manly walked with Jack, Hugh and EB. When ever Miss Hanna looked over her shoulder, he would quickly stop whatever he was doing and try to look like a responsible adult. Even though he was probably playing with giant worms or spiky plants!

We were almost at the top. Suddenly a mad dash to reach the top started. I joined in! I reached the top in about 5th place. We stopped there for 10mins. Annabelle and I used our jackets to fly off a big pile of rocks we found. It was fun even though we only travelled about 3 metres!

On the way back it was really steep in some parts. Me and Emma walked together for most off it. Every 10minutes we would come up to a small hill, so annoying! Me and Emma jumped down the hill for most of the time! There were a few branches that had fallen down in the big winds. We climbed over them as quickly as possible, so we could finish earlier.

When we finished the walk, Emma, Annabelle and I rolled down the hill. Jess thought it was to kiddish and thought that she was mature enough that we shouldn't be rolling down the hill, Boo hoo we still rolled our way to the bottom!!!

Hockey

On Saturday the 14th of May we played at Marist. Our game was against Hornby.
At the start Janelle and Dan asked me if I wanted to play as a half. I normally play as right inner but being a half seemed like something different so I said yes.

Whistle . . . . . . . . . .    Game started! Abby passed back yo Haylley and Haylley smacked it down the field. Their ball. The dribbled it down the field and passed it to a player on our circle. I ran over to them, squared my shoulders, lowered my stick to the ground and charged right into them. The impact ran up my stick. They stepped back trying to get possession of the ball. I got the ball and smacked it to the side of the field.

By half time we were one goal up, 1-0. If we won this game, it would be our first game we won!

In the next half they started with the ball. Haylley ran out trying to intercept their first pass. No luck, but as the person with started to dribble towards our goal Phoebe was ready. She tackled hard and came out with the ball. Passing it to Haylley. Haylley dribbled through all their players, strikes at goal, it rebounded off the goalies pads.

In the end of the game it was 1 all , not a win for us but maybe next we will come off in the lead!

Rabbits

Yesterday after I got back from cross country I raced out to the rabbits. . .

My does Ginger and Shadow are due to have babies. Ginger is a broken fawn and Shadow in a solid black. I put them with one of my bucks Blue, he is a BEW, blue eyed white. Shadow lost her first litter but hopeful these one will survive.

16/5/16
In the morning before school I ran out to check Ginger and Shadow, no babies but Ginger was carrying hay around in her mouth. A good sign! I kept giving her hay until i realised she was eating it all.
Shadow had formed a nest but had put no fur in it.

18/5/16
Cross country today! I check the rabbits and Ginger is pulling her fur out. Hopefully tonight!
After school my dad says " how many babies do you have"! For starters I thought he just meant for me to check., but as I came out to see I relizied that he was serious. Opening the lid there was a small bundle of white fur. Carfully I pecked in, there laid 5 pink wrinkly babie rabbits. They looked like naked mole rats!

I think that they will all be BEW's.

Buddy!

This weekend I have been very bored so i decided to write a bit about my animals.
My youngest animal at the moment is Buddy.

A bit about him:
Buddy is a cross-bred goat. He is really adorable and kind. He will always run up to you and jump around wanting to play with. Some of my friends when he showed this behavior thought that he was trying to be vicious a quickly left the paddock. But because is still very young he is just burning off all that kid energy, just like a puppy!

How I got him and his early childhood:
We used to have 2 adult goats, Chocolate and Star. They were about 5 or 6 years old. We decided to put them in kid. We brought them over to Jodie and Richards place, (my brothers friends parents), They have a whole herd of them that go's all over there property. They are very friendly and really lucky to live a wildish life. Our goats coming from a 10 acre property thought it was luxury. You can imagine what the learned, Jumping and this very peculiar stunt that we saw when we were there. There was a barn with a fence coming off it. The goats came trotting up to the barn wall, ran right up the wall flipped their body over the fence, practically doing a backwards flip! And landed on the other side of the fence and just trotter away as if this was  their daily routine! They stayed there for a few months. In December they were ready to kid. Our first doe Chocolate had to go to the vet and get surgery, but sadly we lost her and her 2 newborn kids. Then our second doe Star was having trouble having her kid so we rang our neighbour, she a vet, she helped delivery Buddy, my cute goat. He was about 14 cm long and his ears were about 9 cm, they looked so silly on him, he looked like a clown. Luckily his ears haven't grown at all, now he has nice NORMALLY ears! Unfortunately we had to put Star down. We lost our 2 wonderful does, and we weren't sure if if buddy would survive. He was so small and delicate.  We kept him inside for his first month and a bit of his life. That night we tried to bottle feed him. He would not take to the bottle. We thought we would surly lose him. Finally for the 100th time we opened up his mouth a put the teet in his mouth . . .
He drank and drank. Yay! When he was about 2 weeks old he had only grown about 1/2 cm. I would take him outside and put him on the lawn to play. He would hobble around and try to run, but he would end up on the ground! Maa'ing and maa'ing. One of his favourite games is jump on the person, if your lying down reading a book he runs up jumps up and lands on your back with THUD! He then lifts his front legs and looks down at you, it's if he saying 'shame,  the king of the castle and your the dirty rascal'!

Now he is 5 months old and is living in the paddock with our lambs from last year. He is about 40 cm long and about 50 cm tall.

I hope you liked reading about my little bundle of joy, Buddy!

PAL's

Last term 10 students got selected to become PALs, PALs stands for Physical Activity leaders. We went to Ashley school to participate in a PAL's leaders day. We played lots of leadership games, such as this soccer one where we played 6 v 6. There were always 2 of us referring each match. Then he stopped us and we had to come up with some new rules to improve the game, we came up with having it just 4 v 4, so the filed wasn't so crowded, another one was that we couldn't have goalies, this was because the fields were quite small and the goal boxes were only about a meter wide. After having gone to the leaders day I think we could all now take a group of little kids and be able to play controlled games.

Now we have established the PAL's program you might have seem that on every Tuesday and Wednesday 2 PAL’s have been out on the back field organizing and playing games.
If you want to come and play the games we have organised, feel free to join in.
Some of the games we have run so far are: Killer ball, Rob the nest and using the parachute.

Last week Annabelle and I did our 3rd session of PAL's with the juniors. We played lots of different games like Cat and Mouse, Cops and Robbers, Duck Duck Goose. I am really enjoying being a PAL and I am looking forward to playing more games with the seniors and juniors next time and the times afterwards.

I strongly recommend that if your school isn't already doing the PAL's program that you should encourage them to give it a go. It give students that might not have very many friends or like t be alone to do at morning tea and lunch time, they can interact with others in there class and school.

Bitmoji

During school this week we have been doing some Bitmoji'ing.
Bitmoji is your own personal emmji. Create a reilistic cartoon avatar of YOU, choose from their giant library of moods and hair styles. Then have a look through their collection of stickers - featuring YOU!  Put them onto any email or working document.
Review: I love this app! It's very entertaining. I use it in emails and are looking forward to adding it to my texts when i get a phone. It make life a little bit more FUN!

Here is some of my Bitmoji avaters:

Book review, Tangi

Tangi is the first novel of Witi Ihimaera's that I've read and I found it extremely hard to read, while at the same time, I enjoyed every minute of it.  It's not a difficult read, and actually is repetitive throughout. But it has an almost hypnotic quality.  The book itself weaves two strands: the return of Tama to his home after his father's death, and Tama dealing with his father's death after it has happened.  Maybe there are even more strands in there.  I think it's this quality that makes the repetition interesting, rather than boring. It's a hugely emotional book, and made me pretty sad at times.  Not many books cause me to express such emotions.  It took me about 1 day to read, but it was worth every page.

Capacity explain everything

Last term the teachers gave us 3 major topics to become experts in, Mass, Capacity and Length. I got paired with Emma. Have a watch below to become an expert too.

Rifle Shooting

This term I have been going to Small Bore Rifle Shooting. We have been shooting with wooden polished guns, my gun that I use is gun 11. My first score was 69.1 and my highest is 82. I have been going for a whole term now and I feel like I have improved lots since I first started. The old guys said that if I shoot in the eighty 3 times in a row I can shoot in a sling.
Each time I go I normally see Holly M and Johnluke. Me and Holly started at the same time and Johnluke started rifle shooting last year for his hobby for William Pike. I will keep updating this post as the year progress's.
